Functional Biology

The Functional Biology Department was set up in 1986 to integrate the former departments of Physiology, Genetics, Microbiology and Biochemistry attached to the Faculties of Biology and Medicine. Currently, it is the teaching and research unit responsible for coordinating the teaching of 5 areas of knowledge (Physiology, Genetics, Immunology, Physical and Sports Education and Microbiology) in accordance with the University’s teaching programme, as well as supporting and promoting the teaching and research activities of its teaching staff. The department’s staff is made up of a total of 51 lecturers, 45 pre/post-doctoral or research project recruits, 2 people in Administration and Services and 6 laboratory technicians.
