Credentials for access

Credentials for access

The University of Oviedo provides its users with credentials that can be used to access different services. These services include the following:

  • Corporate e-mail.
  • Directory service / white pages.
  • Corporate virtual campus.
  • Academic services for students and teachers.
  • Corporate wireless network (wifi).
  • Corporate software service.
  • Remote access to the corporate network.

The use of these services must be done in a responsible manner, respecting the legislation in force and the internal regulation rules. Among these rules is the Information Security Standard Standard regarding the use of computing and communications resources, approved by the Governing Council of the University of Oviedo on 22 December 2015.

The credentials consist of a username accompanied by a password. They must be considered secret, personal, and non-transferable, and it is the responsibility of each user to safeguard and update them, as well as all activities carried out with these credentials. Passwords are subject to the following password policy.

HIGHLIGHT

University user accounts are created automatically from the University's various Student and Staff management systems, so it may take a few hours for the account to become active.

For security reasons, the password provided to users for the first time must be changed before they can access corporate services. To change the password, users must use the "Change Password" option on the https://sies.uniovi.es/paginasblancas website. The password change must be registered in different systems, so some services may take a few minutes to become available.

Email accounts are explicitly activated by users from the corporate intranet. If you want to activate your account, access the Intranet from the University portal, go to the "Corporate Mail" service to see the conditions under which the service is provided and activate your email account.

Answers to frequently asked questions

I do not have a username and password; I have only been given a PIN number

  • In some academic management processes, temporary credentials are generated that consist of the user's ID and a PIN that accompanies it. These temporary credentials only allow access to very specific services, normally for procedures prior to enrolment. Once this enrolment is formalised, you will be provided with your definitive credentials.
  • If you wish to change your PIN or have lost it, and you have provided an alternative email address during the process that generated your PIN, you may be able to obtain a new one directly from the https://sies.uniovi.es/restaurarclave website. If you have not been able to restore your PIN, you must go to the administration of a University Campus to obtain a new one. This procedure cannot be done remotely as your identity must be verified.

I am a new user and my credentials do not work.

  • It is possible that your user account has not yet been created. Accounts are created automatically from the management systems. When an account is created the information must be propagated to different systems and this process takes time to complete. Wait a few hours and try again.
  • You may not have changed the password you were given. The first password provided to users must be changed for security reasons. To change the password, use the "Change password" option on https://sies.uniovi.es/paginasblancas. It may take a few hours for the password change to propagate. Please be patient.

I have lost my password, or I can't remember it

  • If you are a student enrolled at the University and you have provided an alternative email address during registration, you can try to reset your password directly from the https://sies.uniovi.es/restaurarclave website.
  • If you are a student and have not been able to reset the password using the above method, you must go to the administration of a University Campus to obtain new credentials. This procedure cannot be done remotely as your identity must be verified.
  • If you are a lecturer or researcher attached to a department, you must go in person to the department administration to have your password reset. This procedure cannot be done remotely as your identity must be verified.
  • If you are part of the administration and services staff, you must go to the Personnel Management Service and ask for your password to be reset. This procedure cannot be carried out remotely as your identity must be verified.

I wish to change my password

  • In general, all users can change their password on the https://sies.uniovi.es/paginasblancas portal.
  • If you are a registered student at the University, you can request a new letter of credentials from the administration of a University Campus. This procedure cannot be done remotely as it is necessary to verify your identity.
  • If you are a lecturer or researcher attached to a department, you can request a change of credentials at the department administration. This procedure cannot be done remotely as it is necessary to verify your identity.
  • If you are part of the administration and services staff, you can go to the Personnel Management Service and ask for your password to be reset. This procedure cannot be done remotely as your identity must be verified.

My corporate account has expired

  • If you have received a notice that your account is about to expire, just let you know that this is a normal occurrence. Some account types have a set expiry date, so there are processes in place to handle account terminations automatically. Please remove all information from your account to avoid losing it.
  • It is important to remember the following: if you receive such an email that comes from a dubious source or looks strange, check your situation with the IT and Communications Service Helpdesk via the helpdesk . Never access web pages linked in an e-mail of this type, nor open attachments. Access the corporate website or the Intranet and access services from there.

I can log in to all services with my credentials, except my e-mail

  • Email accounts are explicitly activated by users from the corporate Intranet. If you want to activate your account, access the Intranet from the University portal, go to the "Corporate Mail" service to see the conditions under which the service is provided and activate your email account.

I need a University of Oviedo account
