University Extension Courses

The University of Oviedo, pioneer of University Extension in Spain, organises courses throughout the academic year, mainly at its different centres in Oviedo, Gijón, Mieres and Avilés. The subjects of these courses cover all areas of knowledge and can be recognized for elective credits in non-renovated studies and ECTS at all degree levels and Master’s programmes that have been adapted to the European Higher Education Space.

University Extension is one of the most deeply-rooted activities in the University of Oviedo, the institution that introduced it in Spain in 1898. University Extension is a contribution to the social, cultural and economic development of Asturias through the dissemination of Science, Culture and Arts, and it is carried out through courses, conferences and all kinds of cultural and formative activities, with the resources of the University or collaborating with public and private entities.

In general terms, access to these courses and activities is free. In specific cases, assistance and participation in these courses can be recognized as ECTS credits (for renewed studies) or Free Elective Credits (for Studies Not Adapted to the EHEA). The offer includes university extension classrooms, with a modern and miscellanous content; courses for professional updating; university extension courses offered in all the campuses of Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres; and conferences on different topics and themes.
