He tenido conocimiento del anuncio realizado por el presidente egipcio, Al-Sisi, de amnistiar a 530 prisioneros dentro de las medidas legales de refuerzo por la Covid-19. Apelo al Gobierno de España, a la Comisión Europea, a las numerosas instituciones que se han adherido a nuestra causa y a todas las universidades del mundo que, como nosotros, suscriben los principios de la Carta Magna, a unirse a su alma mater y a la Universidad de Oviedo para que nuestra petición sea escuchada. Esta es una oportunidad para acabar con esta terrible y absurda situación y devolverle a Patrick su vida y que pueda retomar sus estudios.

Esperamos ser capaces de recibirle lo antes posible en nuestra comunidad universitaria.

Statement by the rector Santiago García Granda, University Of Oviedo, on Patrick Zaki's situation

I have learned of the announcement made by the Egyptian President al-Sisi to grant pardon to 530 prisoners in the Covid-19 law enforcement measures. I appeal to the Spanish Government, to the European Commission, to the numerous institutions that have adhered to our motion and to all the universities in the world that, like us, have subscribed to the principles of the Magna Carta, to join the Alma Mater and the University of Oviedo and make their voices heard. This is an opportunity to put an end to this terrible and absurd situation and to give Patrick back his life and his studies.

We hope to be able to embrace him again soon in the University community.
