Servicios Científico Técnicos (SCT)

Scientific and Technical Services (SCTs)

The Scientific and Technical Services (SCTs) are a set of units that provide support to researchers, groups or teams of the university, as well as to other public or private entities. It has 18 units that fall into three service categories:

Analytical techniques: nuclear magnetic resonance, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, magnetic measurements, mass spectrometry, thermal testing and elemental analysis, X-ray fluorescence and electron microprobe; and photoelectron, UV-visible and IR spectrometry.

Testing laboratories: biotechnological and biomedical testing, oceanographic sampling, vivarium and pre-clinical testing, nanotechnology (including nano-porous membranes), food technology and environmental testing.

Technology support: photonic microscopy and image processing, scientific modelling cluster, machine shop and statistical consultancy.

All of them are managed by an administrative unit. Most of its facilities are in the Severo Ochoa Building on the Campus del Cristo in Oviedo. The Vivarium and Preclinical Trials Unit is located on the same campus and due to its characteristics, has its own building

There are also three units of the Scientific-Technical Services on the Mieres Campus and another on the Gijón Campus, where new units are planned.
