    General Information

    Access Requirements:
    In order to register in an official Master's Degree, it is mandatory to have completed an official degree in Spain or in any higher education institution of a member state of the European Union integrated in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows students to take a Master's Degree. Students who have obtained their degree outside the EHEA can be admitted as long as the University can verify that these qualifications have a similar level to the corresponding degrees in Spain and they permit graduates to take a Master's Course. This Master's course is intended for graduates in Hispanic Philology or Linguistics. However, other degrees in philology or related areas will be taken into account .

    Double Degree: The student may obtain a Double Degree by spending a semester at the University of Viadriana or at the University of Regensburg.

    • 1st semester: Monday to Friday from 3:30pm to 7:30pm
    • 2nd semester: Monday to Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm

    Professional Opportunities

    This Master's Programme is intended to meet the demands of different professional areas, such as communication companies related to the written press, radio communication and television stations. To a greater o lesser extent, these companies need professionals with an advanced knowledge and training in the Spanish Language, with proficiency in written Spanish, to fill in positions as editors, proofreaders, experts in subtitling news as well as experts in phonetics and pronunciation for several speech tasks. This course is aimed at covering the foreseeable demand of professionals in higher education institutions (universities, research centres, etc.) both nationally and internationally, that are needed to take the place of their specific and qualified teaching staff.

    Due to all this, this Master's Degree aims at meeting the needs of an international, multilingual and multicultural society in which language and all its variety can and must be accorded the place they deserve, along with Hispanic cultures.


    The Master's Degree in Spanish Language and Linguistics (LELin) consist of 60 ECTS credits. This course offers 71 ECTS credits, 51 of them are mandatory (39 ECTS credits belong to different subjects and 12 ECTS credits belong to the Master's Thesis), the remaining 20 credits correspond to optional subjects. This Master's Programme is structured the following way:

    • Seven compulsory subjects (39 ECTS).
    • Four optional subjects: three of them taught at class and one of them consisting of an internship period. Students must choose two out of these four optional subjects (18 ECTS credits are offered but students must only take 9 ECTS).
    • Master's Thesis (12 ECTS).

      • Functional Syntax of Spanish: Transposition (5 ECTS)
      • Diachronic Functional Syntax of Spanish (6 ECTS)
    • OPTIONAL SUBJECTS (students must choose 9 ECTS from the 18 ECTS offered)

      • Philosophy of Language (4,5 ECTS)
      • Contemporary Linguistic Theories (4,5 ECTS)
      • "Intercomprehension" between Romance Languages (4,5 ECTS)
      • External Internship (4,5 ECTS)

      • Semantic, Inferential and Lexical Contents of Spanish (4 ECTS)
      • Phonological Opposition and Neutralization in Spanish (5 ECTS)
