The number of extractions in the University Blood Donation Campaign is increased by 2.8%

More than 2,250 students visited one of the 13 collaboration points located at the different campuses

The 2011-12 University Blood Donation Campaign has come to an end with an increase of 2,8% in the number of extractions with respect to the previous year. A total of 2,264 students gave blood in the two periods of the campaign which were developed in the months of December and March in 13 different points at the campuses of Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres.

The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, has showed this morning the results of the campaign accompanied by the Director of the Community Centre for Blood and Tissues of Asturias, María M. García; the Town Councillor for Health of the City Council of Oviedo, Trinidad Ordiz, and the Vice-Rector for Students, Luis Rodríguez.

For third consecutive year, The Faculty of Sciences was the university centre with the highest number of donations, followed by the School of Tourism, The School of Civil Marine and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. As in the previous years, the student collective continues being the most numerous of the university community in blood donation. 3.68% of the university students participated in the campaign whereas only 2.4% of Administration and Services Staff and 2.58% of Teaching and researc Staff did so.

The Blood Donation Campaign is promoted by the Solidarity Space of the University of Oviedo. In each edition, the collaboration of the participants is distinguished by a drawing. On this occasion, the students who were awarded with two 600 euro grants and an electronic book respectively were Julia Moyá Díaz, Sergio Martínez Aguirre and Carla Sánchez Velázquez. Furthermore, a solidarity diploma was given to the Polytechnical Engineering School of Gijón.
