The team defended two presentations: a first one on a program to reduce students' alcohol consumption and the other on the comparive study of that habit between students from Asturias and Cantabria.
The National Conference on Pediatrics for Students, organised by the Facutly of Medicine at the University of Cantabria and held in Santander last 8, 9 and 19 March, has awarded the delegation of the University of Oviedo with the first and the second prize.
The University of Oviedo has been represented in the conference by the multidisciplinary team made up of Beatriz Portilla Pérez, student of Psichology; María del Pilar Puerta Pérez, Laura Rúa González, Álvaro Rivera Rodríguez and Julio César García Rubio, students of Medicine; all of them under the coordination of lecturer Serafín Málaga Guerrero, Professor of Pediatrics and the University of Oviedo.
The team has defended two presentations, which were awarded. The first place has been for "Efectos de la implementación de un programa intervencionista para reducir el consumo de alcohol en estudiantes asturianos" ("Effects of the implementation of an intervencionist program to reduce alcohol consumption among Asturian students", whereas the second place was for "Estudio comparativo del consumo de alcohol en estudiantes de Asturias y Cantabria" ("Comparative study of alcohol consumption between students from Asturias and Cantabria)
Both studies have focused on the analysis of the results from the Attitudes and Habits Survey on the consumption of alcohol. This survey has been filled out by a total of 2,888 students from Asturias and Cantabria which were registered in 21 educational centres taking part in the project during the current academic year.
