Inauguration of the X Employment Forum of the University of Oviedo: a meeting for the students with the labour market

The rector has stressed the consolidation of this event in its 10th edition and its potential as a door to achieve a first job.

An increase in the number of companies and institutions, despite the crisis and much excitement among new graduates and final-year students, eager to face the complex challenge of finding a job. The X Employment Forum has opened its doors to ease, with the help of University, this difficult jump.

The official opening ceremony has been attended by the rector, Vicente Gotor, the minister of Industry and Employment of the Principality, Graciano Torre, the Councillor of Finance and Administrative Coordination of Gijón, Santiago Martínez Arqüelles, the Head of the Asturian Federation of Employers, Severino García Vigón and the Director of the Corporative Banking of Cajastur, Ignacio Rodríguez Muñiz.

Most of them have agreed on the need to promote entrepreneurship among young people and to take advantage of the opportunities offered by new technologies as a bridge between graduates and enterprises. The rector emphasized the role played by the Forum over the past ten years and encouraged students to participate in this event as it can become a way to find their first job.

The economist Pilar Jericó has been in charge of the opening lecture entitled "Dare to star your own future" (Atrévete a ser protagonista de tu propio futuro". From 10 am, exhibitors from various companies will receive young participants who attend the Forum and give them their curricula with the idea of taking part in probable recruitment processes.

Apart from this meeting between students and companies, tomorrow there will be two round tables of clusters belonging to the Campus of International Excellence and a third one dedicated to the integration of people with disabilities. Besides, at 17:00 pm, the VII Meeting of Directors which, under the heading "The Challenges of the new economy" (Los desafíos de la nueva economía), will count with the former Minister of Public Administration, Jordi Sevilla, as a lecturer.
