Jaime Martínez (1993) and Diego Álvarez (1990), both from Oviedo, have won the second edition of the University of Oviedo Literary Contest. The former has been awarded in the modality of poetry for the book "Donde canta culebra" and, also in the modality of short tales, as he is the author, together with Diego Álvarez, of the winning tale, "Los tres mil cuentos de Marcelino Tongo". Both books will be released by the University in the upcoming months in a colletion published last year with the works awarded in the first edition.

Jaime Martínez is a musician and studies the Degree in Spanish Language and Literature. For his part, Diego Álvarez studies IT Engineering and has recently won the Gloria Fuerte Award for Young Poetry. Among their literary influences, both admire Jorge Luis Borges- both his poetry and his prose- Julio Cortázar and Ángel González.

The jury of the University of Oviedo Literary Contest consisted of Eduardo San José, Javier García, Leopoldo Sánchez Torre and, as president, Vicente Domínguez, Vice-Rector for University Extension and Communication. The Vice-rector has highlighted the unanimity among the jury members regarding the high level of the works presented and there was consensus that all the books should try in other literary contests as they are of high quality.

The Vice-Rector's Office for University Extension and Communication promotes this contest with the objective of boosting literary creation among students at the University of Oviedo. Apart from the release of the works awarded, there is a 1,000 euro prize for each category.
