The University of Oviedo will host the 'Understanding and fighting metastasis' symposium

Scientists from different countries will participate in this working meeting of the MicroEnviMet European project within the Seventh Framework Programme

The University of Oviedo will host a scientific meeting of specialists who are fighting against the cancer and who also take part in MicroEnviMet, a European project belonging to the Seventh Framework Programme that propose innovative approaches in the understanding and the fight against metastasis. This meeting has been organized by the professor of Biochemistry and Biology, Carlos López Otín, in collaboration with the teacher of Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Liege (Belgium), Agnès Noel, member of the Laboratorie de Biologie des Tumeurs et du Développement (LBTD) as well as coordinator of the project.

MicroEnviMet ("Understanding and preventing metastasis through the modulation of the tumour's microenvironment by operating the protease network") has a double aim: understanding better the cancer's mechanism of spreading in the human body and developing new methods for preventing this process altering the tumour's microenvironment.

Experts from France, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Denmark and Slovenia as well as Lopez-Otín's team, representing Spain, are working together in this project. The meeting will be supported by the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Oviedo, through its Cluster of Biomedicine and Health.
