The sports offer of the University of Oviedo includes 265 courses from 38 disciplines during this academic year

The renewed sports facilities of Los Catalanes recover a fundamental space for sports activities

The University of Oviedo has presented this morning an ambitious proposal of sports courses and activities that will be developed during this academic year at the different campuses of the Asturian academic institution. The Area of Sports and Health has planned a total of 265 courses belonging to 38 different sports disciplines. A wide and varied offer which aims to involve and reach all members of the university community.

The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, and the Delegate for Sports and Health, Miguel del Valle, together with the representatives of the companies and institutions sponsoring some of the activities, have been in charge of publically present the sports offer of the University.

Vicente Gotor highlighted the importance of culture and the spirit of sports pervading with university life "because this kind of activities also go hand in hand with healthy pratices". The Rector also stressed that this year the new swimming pool in the Campus of Los Catalanes will be opened for the first time after last year's opening of the sports centre of the Campus of Mieres.

This year, the University of Oviedo recovers some of its fundamental spaces for sports practices after the total renewal of the sports facilities of the Campus of Los Catalanes. The quality and variety of the facilities of the Asturian academic institution lead the Spanish public universities in this field.

These new buildings will hold the university championships, which will be called University Games this year, promoting all its tournaments. Thus, they will remain as one of the main axes within the sports activities at the University of Oviedo.

The Spanish University Championships will be, as usual, one of the greatest challenges of the University. These competitions, organised by the Higher Sports Council, become, year after year, a opportunity to compete with 70 universities from our country.

Athelics (male and female), women's basketball and football will be the main archetypes of the associated sports of the University of Oviedo, which completes its participation with chess, sailing, skiing, judo and rugby where, at the same time, the university community will be offered the chance to take part in top-level competition.
