Alicia Castro Masaveu takes up the post of President of the Social Council of the University.

The ceremony, held in the Historic Building's Auditorium, was graced with the presence of the Rector, the President of the Principality of Asturias and the Regional Minister of Education and Universities.

This morning, Alicia Castro Masaveu took up the post of new President of the Social Council of the University of Oviedo in a simple ceremony held in the Historic Building's Auditorium. The Rector, Vicente Gotor, together with the President of the Principality of Asturias, Francisco Álvarez-Cascos, and the Regional Minister of Education and Universities, Ana Isabel Álvarez, attended the ceremony.

After taking up her post, Alicia Castro addressed those present to point out her "absolute commitment with the university community and their worries and concerns": Castro Masaveu confessed her "rebelliousness against the rumors going around that there begins to be a lost generation of youngsters who may end up being discouraged and pessimist because they could think that the more they make an effort, the less chances they will have to make their dreams come true"

The new President of the Social Council held out her hand to the Rector to work together in order that outstanding aspects such as innovation and new technologies take a step forward, with the help of the University, in the Asturian society.

For his part, the President of the Principality ratified "the unequivocal commitment and highest institutional collaboration" of his Executive with the University and showed his confidence in the Social Council's help to follow "the path of excellence and ensure social participation in the University"

It was precisely in this path of collaboration and social integration, where the Rector, Vicente Gotor, went in depth. He offered Alicia Castro all institutional loyalty and guaranteed the University's continuation with his policy of austerity in expenditure and transparent accountability. The Rector brought the ceremony to an end stressing the need of increasing population's participation in university funding and the fact that the Social Council will be the elected delegate to obtain it.
