The Government Council has approved, on 22 March, the decree in which Vicente Miguel Gotor Santamaría, who repeats term of office leading the Asturian academic institution, is appointed Rector Magnificus of the University of Oviedo.

The Professor of Organic Chemistry obtained 66.521% (3,720)of the votes for the Rectorship election, last 15 March, whereas a 33.6262% (8,332) of the electoral roll voted for the other candidate, Paz Andrés. The participation rate reached a 24% and Vicente Gotor was the most voted candidate in all sectors.

After the approval of this appointment, which will be published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias in the coming days, the Rector is due to take office between the 11 and 18 April.
