More than 7,000 students visited the Employment Forum of the University of Oviedo in the last edition.
A total of 82 companies from all sectors will take part in the XI edition of the Employment Forum of the University of Oviedo, which begins tomorrow in Gijón. The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, presented this morning the fair and highlighted the fact that it was a suitable space for students and companies to get in contact and have first-hand knowledge of the chances and needs of the labour market. More than 7,000 students visited the Employment Forun of the University of Oviedo in its last edition.
"A degree certificate continues being the best guarantee for getting a job", stressed the Rector, who explained that from the 3,572 students who graduated in 2009, from January 2010 to March 2012 at least 1,917 have signed a contract in the Principality of Asturias, which means a 56,67% job placement rate. For his part, from the 4,087 students who graduated last year, 1,385 have signed at least one contract, with a job placement percentage close to 34% a year after finishing the degree.
The Director of Economic Development of Gijón City Council, Pablo Álvarez Cachero, the Vice-Rector for Economic Planning, Agreements and Contracts, Santiago Álvarez, and the Head of the Employability Area, Guillermo Pérez Bustamante, accompanied the Rector in the presentation of the Forum.
Santiago Álvarez highlighted the importance of an space, such as the Employment Forum, for university students to clearly know what are the expectations of the Asturian companies. "It is an initiative which allows students to access the labour demand and supply", added the Vice-rector for Economic Planning, Agreements and Contracts. On the other hand, the Director of Economic Development of Gijón City Council made reference to the company- university relationship as "positive and necessary in the current times".
The Employment Forum will be held until Wednesday, 25 April, at the Asturian Trade Fair Park Luis Adaro, in Gijón. The program includes 11 company presentations and round tables on Disability and Employment and Employment and Practices Abroad.
