The University of Oviedo and the Town Council of Corvera have signed this morning a collaboration agreement to fund grants to support university students who live in the area. The Town Council will give €6,000 for study grants to help combat the effects of the current economic situation and to compensate the national call for grants, recently modified by the policy for grants of the Ministry.

The agreement has been signed at the Town Council of Corvera by the Rector of the University, Vicente Gotor, and the Mayor, José Luis Vega, in an act in which the Vice-Rector for Students, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz, and the councilor of Revenue and General Services, Iván Fernández, were also present.

The University of Oviedo will call for this grants aimed at financing the movement and the equipment of university students from Corvera according to their income and academic record. Currently, around 230 students from this region are studying at the University of Oviedo and around 60 benefitted from the grant of the Ministry during the past academic year. The Rector thanked the Town Council of Corvera for its commitment with the university students and hoped that the agreement will be renewed every year as long as the current economic crisis continues.
