The University of Oviedo will strengthen its collaboration with higher education institutions and technology-based centers in Mexico. The Rector, Vicente Gotor, in his institutional visit to the country, has just signed an agreement with the National Institute of Technology of Mexico, an entity that gathers 266 technology-based institutions throughout the country. This collaboration agreement will promote the mobility of lecturers and students, as well as research projects, and it will be managed through specific agreements to implement joint double degrees and PhD Theses under joint supervision.  

 

The ceremony was presided over by the General Director of the National Institute of Technology of Mexico (TecNM), Manuel Quintero, who welcomed the Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, and the Director of the Internationalization Office, Humberto Rodríguez Solla. The signature ceremony was also attended by 20 directors of different technology-based institutes of the country, like the centers in Querétaro, Saltillo, Culiacán, Los Mochis, Tláhuac and Hermosillo, amongst others; the sector coordinators and heads of area of the TecNM were also present. This center is a benchmark in the country and it has more than five hundred thousand students enrolled, distributed among 266 technology-based centers. 

 

The rector of the University highlighted the relevance of this agreement, which, in addition to mobility programs and research projects, will also imply the development of double degrees. As an example, he pointed to the areas of engineering in Telecommunications, Computing, Industry and Environmental Technology, where both institutions could jointly work in new projects.

 

The University of Oviedo has also signed a collaboration agreement with the Technological Institute of Tijuana, an institution which the University of Oviedo has been collaborating with for several years, and bilateral agreements as regards the exchange of faculty, students and researchers have been renewed. During the week, the Rector of the Asturian academic institution will also visit the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and will attend the annual meeting of the Iberoamerican University Association for Postgraduate Studies, held in Aguascalientes (Mexico), where the University of Oviedo has already signed several collaboration agreements.
