The lower cloister of the LAUDEO Cultural Center of the University of Oviedo, at the Historical Building, was transformed for a few hours into a great laboratory open to the public. The Night of the Researchers gathered hundreds of children accompanied by their families to enjoy the secrets of science.

A dozen researchers of the Asturian academic institution staged seven scientific workshops focused on different disciplines and offering thirty different experiments. Biologists, physicists, geologists and chemists were in charge of leading the children through some oddities of the nature that surrounds them. Throughout the afternoon, the scientists explained concepts and simple experiments to bring them closer to the figure and the work of researchers.

Apart from the workshop titled The Tower as an Observatory, in which the images seen from the tower were displayed on screens, the program offered for the first time the activity called A Farm under the Microscope, coinciding with the celebration of the International Year of Family Agriculture. Chemistry and Medicines, Science and Crime, Revolutionary Magnetism, Water, Paper, Scissors... Science! and Glass or Crystal? completed the attractive offer of workshops of this edition.

This initiative, promoted by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Campus of International Excellence and organized by the Unit of Scientific Culture of the Office of Transference of Results of Research, takes place simultaneously in 12 Spanish cities and is funded by the Seventh Framework Program of the European Union.
