A student of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters wins the 'Antonio Carvajal' Young Poetry Award

'Fuego Cruzado', by Xaime Martínez, who in 2012 was awarded in the Literary Contest of the University of Oviedo, will be published by Editorial Hiperión

Xaime Martínez (Oviedo, 1993), student of the Degree in Spanish Language and its Literatures of the University of Oviedo, has won the 18th "Antonio Carvajal" Young Poetry Award for his work Fuego cruzado. This prize, organized by the Town Council of Albolote (Granada) and aimed at writers younger than 25, gives the winner €1,200 and publishes their book at Editorial Hiperión.

El autor ya fue reconocido en 2012 en el II Concurso Literario Universidad de Oviedo, tanto en el apartado de poesía, por The author had already been recognized in 2012 at the 2nd Literary Contest of the University of Oviedo, both in the category of poetry for El tango de Penélope, as in the category of prose for Los tres mil cuentos de Marcelino Tongo, co-written with Diego Álvarez Miguel. Both works were published by the publishing service of the University of Oviedo.

Martínez, who is also a musician, lyricist and singer of the group La Bande, defines Fuego cruzado as "a comparison between classic myths with those of post-modern times". The literature that intests him the most includes North American literature -for example, Raymond Carver and Billy Collins-, and among the Asturian referents he includes Ángel González and Víctor Botas.
