The University of Oviedo and the Town Council of Gijón have formalized a specific collaboration agreement to reinforce teaching, reasearch and the maintenance of the public spaces around the Campus of Gijón. Rector Vicente Gotor and the Mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón, signed the agreement at the new Building of Scientific-Technical Services, where research teams have already started to work.
With this agreement, the Town Council of Gijón offers €500,000 per year that will be invested in five courses of action: the maintenance and improvement of the green spaces of the Campus; the scientific development of the Botanical Garden; the funding of expenses and services related to the agreement; the development of the activities of the University Institute of Industrial Technology, and the funding of diverse Master's Degrees and Certificate Degrees.
The objective of the current agreement is to regulate the specific framework of collaboration between both institutions, giving continuity to the existing cooperation and promoting new courses of action, specially those aimed at the improvement of university teaching, the creation of R&D&I programs in Gijón and the achievement of the objectives of the Campus of International Excellence.
The venue chosen for the signing of the agreement was the Scientific-Technical Building. The Rector and the Mayor, accompanied by members of their respective teams and teachers and researchers of the Campus of Gijón, briefly toured around the premises, whose workshop, made from two units joined by a partition wall, deserves an special mention. The Rector noted that, currently, there are already five research groups working in this space.
