The academic institution presents its support programs for students with disabilities and the innovation projects in the field of specific needs
The University of Oviedo will hold during two days (April 29-30) its meetings on disabilities, a meeting point between specialists, students and different collectives to share the latest news, resources and programs aimed at students with disabilities. The Rector, Vicente Gotor, and the councilor of Social Wellfare and Housing, Esther Díaz, inaugurated the sixth edition of these meetings, promoted by the Office for People with Specific Needs (ONEO) of the Asturian academic institution.
One of the objectives of these meetings between experts and users is to reinforce the co-responsibility of the university students in the inclusion of people with disabilities, as well as giving publicity to the different programs of the University of Oviedo in terms of attention to disabilities, such as the grants for accompaniment (funded by Cajastur), the initiatives of international mobility, the innovation projects or the educational research in the field of specific needs or the insertion into the labor market.
The Rector highlighted the attention that the University of Oviedo offers the students with disabilities, with the aim of promoting equality of opportunities. He also talked about the concrete measures taken during the past few years. "The achievement of the seal of Campus of International Excellence has allowed our University to acquire specific funding to develop actions of accessibility, among them the installation of magnetic loops in every campus that help people with hearing impairments", he said.
Vicente Gotor thanked the collaboration of the Council of Social Wellfare and Housing, "which has been a key factor", and also the support lent by Cajastur to specific programs of attention to disabilities. In turn, Esther Díaz highlighted the effort made by the collectives that work supporting people with disabilities and renewed the commitment of the actions that the Principality develops with the University of Oviedo.
