Agreement between the University and the Town Council of Soto del Barco to fund grants for students of the council

The council will give €6,000 for study grants to combat the current economic situation

The University of Oviedo and the Town Council of Soto del Barco signed this morning a collaboration agreement to fund grants to support the university students of the council. The Town Council will allot €6,000 for study grants in order to combat the effects of the current economic crisis and complement the national offer of grants, recently modified by the policies of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

The agreement was signed at the town council of Soto del Barco by the Rector of the University, Vicente Gotor, and the major, Jaime Menéndez Corrales, in an act that also featured the presence of the Vice-Rector for Students, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz.

The University of Oviedo will offer these grants aimed at funding the commute and the materials of the students that are currently enrolled at the University of Oviedo and who live at Soto del Barco. The call for these grants will be published in the Official Journal of the Principality of Asturias and will be in effect during the 2013-2014 academic year. Currently, around thirty students living in this council are enrolled at the University of Oviedo and may benefit from this initiative by the town council.
