With this program from the CIE, the academic institution now offers 14 Undergraduate Degrees partially taught in English
The University of Oviedo expands its offer of bilingual itineraries in the 4 Undergraduate Degrees taught in the Polytechnic School of Mieres. The center will offer 45 places for students of the first year of the Undergraduate Degrees in Civil Engineering, Mining and Energy Resources, Geomatic and Topographic Engineering and Forest and Environmental Engineering. With this initiative, promoted by the Campus of International Excellence, the academic institution reaches 14 Undergraduate Degrees with subjects that may be studied in English.
Students who start a bilingual itinerary may opt between two different paths that prove that they have finished a bilingual Degree, though all of the them must complete a total of 120 ECTS credits to have their studies validated. One of the options allows them to complete the bilingual Degree exclusively in the University of Oviedo, while the other allows them to go on an Erasmus exchange or Erasmus Internship in an institution where classes are taught in English and which has signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Oviedo.
The bilingual offer in the Campus of Mieres is restricted, for the moment, to the second option. In other words, students will complete 60 ECTS credits in English in Asturias and will have to go abroad to complete the remaining 60. In any case, the subjects taken will be included in the European Diploma Supplement. Future academic years may offer the possibility of fully completing a bilingual itinerary at the University of Oviedo.
The creation of bilingual Undergraduate Degrees is one of the strategic actions of the Campus of International Excellence aimed at improving teaching quality and internationalization. The CIE also funds language courses for the teachers of binlingual Degrees at La Casa de las Lenguas, and introductory courses to the University for new students. These two complementary actions will also be offered at the Campus of Mieres.
The implementation of bilingual Degrees aims at boosting the external profile of both the students and the teachers of the University of Oviedo. This year, the ten Degrees that have bilingual modalities have 437 students in their respective first and second courses. The Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijón, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Jovellanos Faculty of Commerce, Tourism and Social Sciences of Gijón and the School of Computer Science Engineering of Oviedo are the other centers that currently offer bilingual modalities for Undergraduate Degree students.
