Solidarity Space

The Solidarity Space of the University of Oviedo conducts various activities to raise awareness and provide support for disadvantaged people and groups, both on and off the different university campuses. Collaboration with different social organizations and institutions is on-going to give greater scope to these initiatives.

The Solidarity Spaces serve to carry out actions promoting gender equality, participation in social responsibility, volunteer work and environmental awareness programmes. They also foster debate on strategic issues in disability forums and meetings such as Development Education Seminars.

The University of Oviedo campuses also serve as a setting for Blood Donation Campaigns, the fair trade market and immigrant literacy courses. Support aimed at senior citizens also receives special attention through the "Living together and sharing" programme, an interesting initiative that connects young people with limited resources who need accommodation and the over-65s who live alone.

Some of these activities are carried out in collaboration with organizations and associations dedicated to cooperation in various fields (ActionAid, the FAEDIS Foundation, the IFMSA Medical Students Association, the "Gacela" Ibero-American Cultural Association, the CAUCE Foundation, ACCEM-Asturias), or within the framework of global campaigns (Move for Equality, World Fair Trade Day, Tobacco Free World, Drug Plan, etc.)
