The fostering of entrepreneurial culture is one of the University of Oviedo Employability Area's main lines of action. The University undertakes different activities for students, recent graduates and researchers to inform and advise them on business creation and self-employment.
In order to promote business initiatives developed by university students, the University of Oviedo organizes summer courses on the preparation of business plans, company visits, discussions with entrepreneurs, the business ideas competition, or the so-called "entrepreneur's area" at the University of Oviedo Employment Forum, among other activities.
It also manages the software application Padrino del Emprendedor (The Entrepreneur's Godfather), which puts university students with business ideas in contact with young entrepreneurs who wish to help them. The philosophy of the application is to create a community of entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs who, acting as free agents, make up a virtual community of people supplying and seeking help. Activities aimed at researchers and at the creation of spin-offs are also undertaken by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and the Campus of International Excellence.
