The University of Oviedo is the only public institution of higher education in the autonomous community of Asturias. It is a university with more than four hundred years of history and a rich historical and cultural heritage. It provides education in all branches of knowledge, both in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as bilingual teaching and Erasmus Mundus Master’s degrees as a coordinating university. Currently, the university undertakes 80% of the R&D and Innovation activities carried out in Asturias.
The University of Oviedo combines the legacy of over 400 years of history with a modern academic offerings and research excellence. It has more than fifty undergraduate degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and a Master's degree offering with a markedly international slant in collaboration with other institutions. Worthy of note is the participation of nearly 200 companies in the teaching and student placements in academic-career-oriented Master's degree programmes. It coordinates three Erasmus Mundus Master's programmes and offers students bilingual studies, dual degrees with foreign universities, and double degrees via which young people obtain two degrees.
The University of Oviedo has seven campuses in the major cities in the central area of Asturias, but also offer extension courses and cultural activities in different parts of the region.
Internationalization is one of the hallmarks of the University. In recent years, it has opened new avenues for collaboration in Asia, with agreements with universities in China and Japan, and has strengthened its ties with Latin America.
The Campus of International Excellence has promoted the mobility of teaching staff to visit universities located in the top international rankings as well as attracting talent. In this regard, it has funded stays and conferences by foreign lecturers and grants to international students with the best academic records to study for a Master's degree. In the field of research, the University of Oviedo undertakes 80% of the region's R&D and Innovation activities and has signed almost five hundred contracts and collaboration agreements with companies.
It is also an institution with a strong commitment to society, including special needs programmes, and promotes activities that encourage volunteer work, international cooperation, in addition to implementing proactive gender equality and family reconciliation policies.
