    General Information

    Access Requirements:

    In order to register in an official Master's Degree, it is mandatory to have completed an official degree in Spain or in any higher education institution of a member state of the European Union integrated in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows students to take a Master's Degree. Students who have obtained their degree outside the EHEA can be admitted as long as the University can verify that these qualifications have a similar level to the corresponding degrees in Spain and they permit graduates to take a Master's Course.

    The access profiles is that of a graduate in the different Undergraduate Degrees in Sciences, Engineering or Architecture. Moreover, students are encouraged to have a moderate level of English Language, since some of the elective subjects will be taught and which will be used by visiting professors.

    Professional Opportunities

    The Master's Degree in Materials Science and Technology of the University of Oviedo aims at providing graduates, bachellors and engineers a specialization in the field of materials, with the main objective of educating professionals able to lead the scientific and technological innovations that will arise in this field and which constitute, in many cases, the bases that support the progress of different areas of the industry (building, transportation, metallurgics, aeronautics, energy, electronics, computer science, etc.).

    This Master's Degree is devoted to the study of the continuous evolution of the so-called traditional and the new materials, paying attention to their obtention, processing, characterization, properties, behavior, assets and application.

    Therefore, students who complete this Master's Degree will be able to, on the one hand, initiate their PhD studies in the existing research groups, both in the university as in collaborating institutions, or any other entity; and in the other hand, to join the staffs of enterprises of the field.


    This course consists of a total of 60 ECTS credits which have been structured in five modules:

    • Module I: Materials properties and characterization (24 ECTS).
    • Module II: Families of materials and their use (21 ECTS).
    • Module III: Materials technologies (21 ECTS).
    • Module IV: Internship (6 ECTS).
    • Module V: Master's Thesis (12 ECTS).
