Grados bilingües

Bilingual Degrees

The University of Oviedo has promoted the incorporation of teaching in English in different degrees, which not only increases the linguistic training of our graduates but also their possibilities of accessing the labour market, both nationally and internationally.

The bilingual itineraries offer university students the opportunity to study an important part of the subjects of their degrees in English and/or to go abroad to a foreign university where they can continue their learning in this language.

Nineteen bachelor's degrees offer subjects in English taught by teachers accredited for this type of teaching. Students also have access to reinforcement courses to facilitate their incorporation into these bilingual pathways.

Characteristics of bilingual pathways

There are two ways of obtaining the Bilingual Itinerary Certificate:

  1. Possibility of completing at least 120 ECTS in subjects taught entirely in English at the institution itself, spread over the four academic years. This includes the presentation and defence of the final degree project in English and, where appropriate, the completion of external internships. If, in addition, a stay in a foreign university that teaches in English, and that has signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Oviedo, the ECTS credits taken there will be added, although this stay will not be essential to obtain the Bilingual Itinerary Certificate.
  2. The possibility of completing at least 60 ECTS credits in subjects taught entirely in English at the institution itself, including the presentation and defence of the final degree project in English and, where appropriate, the completion of external internships, during the four years of their studies. To obtain the bilingual degree in these degrees, it is essential to achieve a total of 120 ECTS credits in subjects in English, through international stays (studies or internships) in a centre that has a mobility agreement with the University of Oviedo or in another Spanish university, also taking subjects in English within the framework of the SICUE mobility programme.

Students passing either of the two modalities will be awarded a certificate of having completed the bilingual itinerary in the chosen degree and it will be included in the European degree supplement

In any case, those students who take some of the subjects, but do not complete the bilingual pathway in its entirety, will have the credits passed in English, the internships abroad or their academic mobilities recognised in the European Diploma Supplement.

Registration

To access the English pathways, candidates must have obtained at least a grade of 7 in English Language in the University Entrance Exams (EBAU/PAU) or accredit a B1 level of English. Those who access by another route will have to accredit a B1 level of English.

The selection will be made according to the access grade (if the studies have no limit of places) or admission (if the studies have a limit of places). In case of vacancies, other students may also choose some subjects of the English pathway, even if they do not wish to complete it. They will also be selected on the basis of their access or admission marks for the corresponding studies.

New students who have chosen a bilingual pathway and consider that their level of English is not adequate to follow the teaching or to take the assessment tests, will have the option of changing to the groups with teaching in Spanish during the first 15 days of each semester.

Reinforcement courses

The aim of the university's reinforcement courses is to enable students to follow the classes taught in English in the bilingual degree programme. These courses deal with lexical-semantic, syntactic, pragmatic and phonological content corresponding to English level B1. In each case, special emphasis will be placed on the terminology specific to the disciplines to be studied.

Accredited teachers

These pathways are taught by teachers accredited to teach in English.
