The Fifth Interuniversity Debate League of the G9 will take place on April 18th and 19th in the University of Cantabria
Four students of Law will represent the University of Oviedo in the Fifth Interuniversity Debate League of the G9 that will take place in the University of Cantabria on April 18th and 19th. During the afternoon of this past Friday on the Great Hall of the Historical Building of the Asturian academic institution, three teams took part in the regional debate, which this year is based on the question: "Are there too many Town Halls and Councils in Spain?"
The winning team is formed by Alba Rodríguez Menéndez, Fidel Doming Espina, Marco Fernández Gutierrez and José Ignacio Bernado Iglesias, from the third, fourth and fifth year of the old Degree in Law. The Asturian students will compete against the other teams of the universities of the G9.
The Debate League, whose national phase took place in Oviedo last year, aims at promoting among the university students public dialogue and the challenge of ideas as an exercise on coexistence. It also seeks the development of the personal skills needed for information research, analysis, oral expression, teamwork and promptness of reply.
Debate leagues have a long and prestigious history in American and British universities and secondary education centers. Taking this experience as their models, the universities of the G9 (of which the University of Oviedo is a member) created this Debate League.
