  • PhD Programme in Energy Engineering

    General Information

    Presentation: There is no doubt that Energy Engineering has an increasingly social and economical relevance; this includes from the exploitation technologies of primary energy resources to the technologies related to the efficient use of energy in different fields such as industry, building or transport. The ever-more urging environmental sustainability and conservation requirements have propelled those make studies and projects that seek to optimize the different processes of energy use and consumption as a top priority. There is a growing demand of qualified staff that can perform R&D and Innovation tasks in the field of engineering.

    That is why, the general goal of this PhD programme is to offer an advanced training in the research methodologies and activities inherent to the field of Energy Engineering, by means of completing a doctoral thesis focused on any of the different scientific and technological branches, and in particular, on those research lines specified below. Among other competencies, the goal is that students are able to conceive, design, implement and adopt a substantial research process with the necessary scientific method and rigueur; as well as make a contribution thanks to an original investigation that broadens the frontiers of knowledge and which deserves publication at a national or internationally level.

    Access and Admission: To access the research period of the PhD programme in Energy Engineering it is mandatory to have completed a training programme associated to this PhD programme (for example, a Master's Degree in Energy Engineering or any other Master's Degree in the field of technology of the University of Oviedo), or to meet the requirements detailed in article 15 of the Regulations of PhD studies of the University of Oviedo (Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias – BOPA – of 25 August 2011). For the final admission, pursuant to article 16 and 17 of the afore mentioned agreement, the Academic Committee will assess the degree, training, previous experience, capabilities and other merits of the candidates, if necessary by means of a personal interview. Admission may be subject to the completion of additional training activities.
