  • PhD Programme in Process and Environmental Engineering

    General Information

    Presentation: The main goal of this PhD programme is to offer students the possibility to complete their PhD Thesis in the field of Chemical and Environmental Engineering in accordance with the basic competences laid down in Section 3.4 of Annex I of the Royal Decree 1393/2007 and the ones that are set out in the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (MECES as per its Spanish Acronym)

    • Capacity for understanding, modelling, ex novo designing, reforming and calculating physical transfer processes or chemical/biochemical transformation processes related to Chemical Engineering or Sanitary and Environmental Engineering.
    • That students show capacity for conceiving, designing, implementing and adopting a substantial research process with proper academic seriousness.
    • That students make a contribution thanks to an original investigation that broadens the frontiers of knowledge by developing a substantial basis which deserves at least partial publication at a national or internationally level.
    • That students are able to perform critical analysis, assessment and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
    • That students can communicate their ideas with their colleagues, the academic community and society in general.
    • That students are able to encourage technological, social or cultural progress in a society based in knowledge, both in academic and professional contexts.

    Specific requirements: The Committee for Internal Quality Assurance of this PhD Programme will monitor the suitability of the candidates profile to this programme. This Committee will make sure that all candidates have the basic knowledge needed to complete a doctoral thesis in this field.

    • Treatment of gas emissions containing volatile organic compounds by catalytic combustion methods, adsorption and adsorption-catalysis hybrid processes.
    • Comprehensive oily waste water treatment..
    • Waste water treatment by means of biological/ultra-filtration.
    • Development of adsorbents for carbon-dioxide sequestration.
    • Organochlorine waste management and contaminated water treatment by means of catalytic and sorption methods.
    • Recovery of water and detergent from food industries..
    • Applying the lifecycle analysis to assess waste and wastewater management alternatives.
