    Access Requirements:

    In order to register in an official Master's Degree, it is mandatory to have completed an official degree in Spain or in any higher education institution of a member state of the European Union integrated in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows students to take a Master's Degree. Students who have obtained their degree outside the EHEA can be admitted as long as the University can verify that these qualifications have a similar level to the corresponding degrees in Spain and they permit graduates to take a Master's Course.

    This Master's Degree is primarily intended for Graduates in Social Sciences and specially for Graduates in Legal Sciences, according to the assessment made by the Academic Commission. Apart from the required degree, candidates must also present their curriculum vitae or resumé and a letter of motivation explaining their academic goals and any relevant achievement for their admittance.

    Schedule:

    Schedule of physical classes: September to the end of January, each subject is taught through one week from Tuesday to Friday, between 17:00 and 20:00 (the student must attend 6 weeks of compulsory subjects and 6 weeks of elective subjects).

    Starting on March, students will have external internships in the hours arranged with each entity and they will have to prepare their Master's Theses on their own.

    Professional Opportunities

    The main goal of this Master's Degree is to provide law and social science students with a specific legal training so that they can work in the different areas related to social services and the actions regarding vulnerable groups and people, as well as to design, implement and lead research projects and processes in the area of the protection of vulnerable groups and people, from a eminently social and legal perspective. It provides students with specific professional capabilities linked to specific legal knowledge that will allow students to take up positions related to the defence and guarantee of vulnerable groups and people's right and to the design, coordination and management of public policies and private strategies related to the protection on vulnerable groups and people.

    Syllabus

    This Master's Degree spans 1 year and 60 ECTS credits and has been divided into modules. To avoid problems of management and academic charge, students are encouraged to enroll in the compulsory subjects as well as in all the subjects that belong to the two elective modules (in other words, 3+3), since the evaluation of elective subjects is partially made by modules.

    ANNUAL SUBJECTS

    MODULE 2: Minors/Adults/People with disabilities and dependant people:

    • Minors as a subjects of rights and as receiver of protection (3 ECTS)
    • Civil and social measures for the protection of the elderly (3 ECTS)
    • Civil and social measures for the protection of people with disabilities and dependant people (3 ECTS)

    MODULE 3: Discrimination and gender

    • Equality, discrimination and gender (3 ECTS)
    • Legal protection against gender discrimination at work and in family relationships (3 ECTS)
    • Criminal protection against gender-based violence (3 ECTS)

    MODULE 4: Poverty and social exclusion

    • Social and in-prison protection of prisoners and ex-prisoners. (3 ECTS)
    • Legal protection against discrimination for other causes of vulnerability (3 ECTS)
    • Social measure of protection against poverty and social exclusion (3 ECTS)

    MODULE 5: Immigration, Emigration and Ethnic Minorities

    • Legal protection of immigrants (3 ECTS)
    • Protection of Spanish citizens abroad (3 ECTS)
    • Legal protection of ethnic, religious and cultural minorities (3 ECTS)
    FIRST TERM

    MODULE 1: Constitutional state and protection of vulnerable groups and people

    • History and characterization of vulnerable groups and people (3 ECTS)
    • Citizenship, fundamental rights and guiding principles of social policy against vulnerability (3 ECTS)
    • Administrative organization and benefit regime of the social state (3 ECTS)
    • Fiscal and social policies the protection of vulnerable people (3 ECTS)
    • Judicial protection of the rights of vulnerable groups and people (3 ECTS)
    • Defenders of vulnerable groups and people (3 ECTS)
    SECOND TERM

    COMPULSORY SUBJECTS (24 ECTS)

    MODULE 6: Internship and Master's Thesis

    • Internship in public administration or in entities and private institutions (12 ECTS)
    • Master's Thesis (12 ECTS)
