    Access Requirements:

In order to register in an official Master's Degree, it is mandatory to have completed an official degree in Spain or in any higher education institution of a member state of the European Union integrated in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows students to take a Master's Degree. Students who have obtained their degree outside the EHEA can be admitted as long as the University can verify that these qualifications have a similar level to the corresponding degrees in Spain and they permit graduates to take a Master's Course.

Since it is an interdisciplinary programme, it is not necessary to have previous knowledge about the different areas that are involved in this course. It is only necessary to have some basic general training, as well as to show dedication and versatility. This Master's course is intended for students and professionals willing to deepen their knowledge of the theory and practice of gender issues in an international programme of quality. In addition, this Master's programme offers the opportunity to be trained at a foreign institution and therefore to obtain a double degree.

The most desirable profiles are the following:

    • Researchers willing to extend their knowledge of women and humanities, arts and social sciencies or those who would like to carry out research in the field of gender.
    • Experts involved in the planning, development and evaluation of gender equality actions, equal policies agents at both private and public corporations or those willing to get trainning for this purpose.
    • Experts and professionals of any field in charge of solving conflicts or of applying sexual policies at institutions, schools, public administrations, etc, and willing to get trainning in a comparative and international environment.

This Erasmus Mundus Master's Courses have deadlines and procedures that are different from the rest of the official Master's Degrees. Professional Opportunities

On completion of the Erasmus Mundus Master's course in Women and Gender Studies (GEMMA), graduates will have acquired a complex set of competences in the field of Gender equality (critical knowledge of key methodologies and theories, best practices and applications in different social and academic fields and in their own field of specialization) and will posses, as well, a direct and practical knowledge of two institutions and European contexts, where the studies are taught.

Depending on the study track chosen, graduates will be specialized in a specific theme and will have prepared a research or a professional thesis, co-supervised by the two universities chosen by the student, which will result in a high-level training. This training will prepare them for an informed and critical intervention in the field of gender equality as well as to access PhD studies.

GEMMA allows students to access PhD studies not only in Spain but also in the other universities of the Consortium. Given its reputation as an Erasmus Mundus Programme and the double degree it awardes, it enables students to access international programmes as well as different professional and academic fields. As regards the University of Oviedo, the Master's course allows straight admission into the PhD Programme in Gender and Diversity, founded in 1995, which received a Quality Award in 2005 and the Excellence Mention In 2011. The programme has already trained a large group of Doctors and post-graduates that nowadays hold prestigious professional and academic positions.
