    Access Requirements:

    Being in possession of an official University Degree. Nevertheless, exceptionally, admission will be extended to professionals directly related to to the speciality of the course who lack a Degree, as long as they prove their professional careers and meet the legal criteria to access University courses.

    Please check the Agreement of November 29, 2007 of the Governing Council of the University of Oviedo, which approves the regulation of studies leading to Certificate Degrees and other Postgraduate Degrees (BOPA, January 12, 2008).

    Admission Requirements: Titulados en Medicina con la especialidad de Oftalmología y experiencia de al menos un año en patología del segmento anterior al ojo, con alto nivel de inglés y conocimientos de metodología de investigación.

    Professional Opportunities

    On completion of the Master's course the ophthalmologist will be self-sufficient in the management of the ocular surface, the cornea, the lens diseases and the refractive surgery.


    This is a nine-month course consisting of 60 ECTS credits.

    • MODULE 1.- Eye surface: dry eye, blepharitis, external diseases and infections of the eye surface, chronic and healing conjunctivitis, allergy and inflamation of the eye surface. Infectious and immunology disease of the cornea. Corneal degeneration. Keratoconus. Contactology.
    • MODULE 2.- Cornea: Additive surgery of the cornea with intrastromal ring segments. Trauma of the eye surface. Surgery of the eye surface. Keratoplasty. Regenerative medicine of the eye surface and the cornea.
    • MODULE 3.- Lens: Preventing lens opacities, diagnosis and prognosis of cataract surgery, intraocular lens selection, prothesis implantation techniques, visual rehabilitation after cataract surgery.
    • MODULE 4.- Refractive surgery: physical and biological basis of refractice surgery. Patient selection. Indications, contraindications, expected results and risks. Corneal and non-corneal surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatisim. Custom corrections. Presbyopia surgery. Instrumentation, graduation, topography, anterior segment analysis. Therapeutic tools. Excimer laser, Femtosecond laser.
