• Experts discuss on the social impact of educational inequalities at the University of Oviedo

    National and international specialists will exchange the results of their research the days 12 and 13 July

    Opening ceremony of the XVI Conference on Sociology of Education

    The University of Oviedo hosts since this morning the XVI Conference on Sociology of Education, organised by the Sociology of Education Association with the support of the Campus of International Excellence. The encounter brings national and international specialists together in Oviedo to discuss Education in global and international society.

    The main goal is to analyse how the processes of economic, political and cultural globalization have some effects on several fields of activity in social life and, particularly, in education.

    The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, opened the conference accompanied by the General Director for Professional Training of the Principality of Asturias, Sara Álvarez; the President of the Sociology of Education Association, Mariano Fernández Enguita, the President of the Organising Committee, Capitolina Díaz; and the lecturer at the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies, António Teodoro.

    The Conference program, in which more than a hundred specialists participate, includes specific sessions to deal with big challenges to face in the educational system, such as school failure and drop-out rates, the role the family has to play and how the presence of new technologies has an influence on teachers', students' and parents' daily life. Furthermore, they will develop some specific modules to analyse the reality of current universities and also the needs and problems affecting teaching staff.
