The University of Oviedo aims to promote the Centre of University Services in Avilés with a wider and more varied program. The Rector, Vicente Gotor, and the Mayoress, Pilar Varela, presented yesterday the languages offered by Casa de las Lenguas and the new University Program for Mature People (PUMUO).

The Rector announced that the current levels of English offered in the University Centre of Avilés will be implemented by Italian and Portuguese courses to begin in the next academic year. Vicente Gotor stressed the fact that this expansion in the languages offer goes hand in hand with the University of Oviedo's bet for the town. "If there is any interst in another language, as we are noticing in Oviedo with Chinese language, then we might include it", specified the Rector.

The courses of languages in Casa de las Lenguas will last 90 hours, carried out in two weekly 85-minute sessions. The registrations can be made until 10 September in the official registries of the University of Oviedo.

The Rector and the Mayoress, who were also accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Students, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz, and the Culture Councillor, Román Antonio Álvarez, presented also the PUMUO offer, the program of lifelong learning for older than 50 and whose enrolment period will be open until 5 September. Gotor showed his interest in the University registering more enrolments for PUMUO in Avilés and encouraged the people from the town to take part in this initiative.
