The blackboard signed by the winners of the Award in Scientific and Technical Research will be displayed at the Faculty of Sciences, where they offered a conference
Hundreds of students of the Faculty of Science had the chance of sharing a morning with their idols Peter Higgs, François Englert and the general director of the CERN, Sergio Bertolucci, last October when they received in Oviedo the Prince of Asturias Award in Scientific and Technical Research. Yesterday, as a memento of such an illustrous meeting, the Prince of Asturias Foundation gave to the University the blackboard signed by the three winners of the award with the formulas that led to the discovery of Higgs boson, the so-called God's particle.
The blackboard will be displayed at the same classroom of the Faculty of Sciences where Higgs and Englert offered a conference and encouraged the students to continue with their research "because there are still many things left to discover". Before being transported to the Faculty of Sciences, the members of the jury of the Prince of Asturias Awards in Scientific and Technical Research took a picture with the blackboard signed by the winners of the latest edition of the prize.
During their visit to the University of Oviedo, the scientists, who were later also awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physics, remembered the difficulties and critics they had to go through until they managed to complete their theory and thanked the CERN the efforts made to prove its validity four decades later.
