The three girls will represent the region in the national phase which will be held in Pamplona at the end of this month.

The rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor has received the winners of the Mathematical Olympics in the regional phase. This is the first time that three women take the first posts of the podium. They will also be in charge of representing Asturias in the national phase, which will take place from the 24th to the 27th of March in Pamplona.

Magdalena Rodríguez Dehli, from La Ería Institute; Carmen Amo Alonso, from the Jovellanos Institute of Gijón; and Miao Oi Ye Ji, from Corazón the María School, also located in Gijón, are the three girls who outstood in the regional classification held on the 21st and 22nd of February, where most of the participants were males.

The rector, accompanied by the vice-rector for Students and Employment, Susana López Ares and the District Delegate for the organization of the Spanish Mathematical Olympics, Antonia Salas Riesgo, gave the winners of this traditional competition some presents from the University of Oviedo and he gave them an advise as well: "Choose the studies you like, not because they are longer or shorter, nor because of its job opportunities. When you make your own choice, the success or the failure will always be yours".

Carmen comes from the Jovellanos Institute of Gijón where she studies the first course for reaching her High School Diploma and she assures that she's not sure about which studies she's going to start. Although she has shown her talent in Mathematics, she declares that she likes Arts. Magdalena studies the course of Humanities composed by subjects as Latin and Greek, and she studies Applied Maths to Social Sciences. She hasn't decided what she's going to study either. Miao Oi has less time to decide in which career she's going to register. She is in the last course of her High School Diploma and she affirms that she likes sciences. She was born in Gijón but her parents are one of those Chinese families who came to Asturias to stay.

The three of them can win a medal in the Spanish Mathematical Olympics. The one who wins the Golden medal will take part in the international phase which will be held in Amsterdam (Nederland) on July, 2011.
