The University of Oviedo and the multinational ThyssenKrupp Elevator create the Mobility Chair, an initiative that seeks to promote activities of research, development and innovation; the collaboration in Undergraduate and Postgraduate formation, and the transference of knowledge in an international sphere. The Rector, Vicente Gotor, and the president of ThyssenKrupp Elevator for Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East, Ramón Sotomayor, have signed a collaboration agreement to develop this proposal, framed in the Campus of International Excellence of the academic institution.

The Mobility Chair is born with the aim of reinforcing the relations between both institutions through the Campus of Innovation, which will include, among other activities, the development of joint projects of research, development and innovation between the enterprise and different research groups of the University of Oviedo. ThyssenKrupp makes it possible for teachers and students to collaborate in R&D&i projects in the plants or premises of the enterprise, both in Gijón and in any of the sites of the Operative Unit Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East.

Another activity that may be appealing for the students is the offer of grants and internships in enterprises of the group for students of technical Degrees who have not yet completed their Undergraduate or Master's Theses. Moreover, the company will help these young students enter the job market with the offer of internships at the enterprise or in joint international R%D%i projects, with the chance of staying at other collaborating centers, enterprises or universities.

As a complement, the new Chair will contribute to the creation and offer of Postgraduate programs; the call of a Bachelor's, Undergraduate or Master's Award for Innovation in Mobility, and the creation of a contest of ideas for students of technical Degrees in order to promote the activities of R&D&i at the University.

Moreover, both institutions will promote the development of research projects and PhD Theses in the field of knowledge of the Mobility Chair. The development of joint lines of research also seeks to favor the formation of the staff of the enterprise, with the aim of helping them achieve the degree of Doctor.

The Chair will be directed by Javier Sebastián Zúñiga, Tenured Professor of Electronical Technology of the University of Oviedo, and will have a monitoring committee composed by representatives of both institutions.
