The University of Oviedo and AG Software have signed a cooperation agreement to develop joint research and training activities. The academic institution is the first Spanish university which supports an agreement with this German company. The enterprise will provide software licenses of project packages aimed to improve the training of students throughout the use of the most advanced technologies available in the market for free.

The rector, Vicente Gotor, and the AG Software responsible of Relations with the University, Jürgen Powik, have presented this agreement which, firstly, will benefit Computer Sciences students, but it will be extended to students of other degrees such as Engineering or Business Administration and Management. The rector has stressed how important are this kind of software tools for the acquisition of skills that complete the student's knowledge and his training when facing a professional career.

Jürgen Powik defended the strategic collaboration with universities to promote research and he pointed out that the programme "has been designed for the creation of a virtual economy in the campus and to offer real experiences to students. This is a very profitable way to universities which can offer practical experiences to their students".

On the other hand, the AG Software responsible of the Northern area of Spain, Carlos Abad, said that this agreement will be "beneficial" for the University, due to the educational offer of guided training courses, and also for the Asturian society.

The University of Oviedo and AG Software will collaborate in diverse activities related to research and training developed by both entities, and AG Software will promote scientific and technological diffusion among the members of the university community. According to Gonzalo Landaluce, AG Software's deputy chairman of sales, "this agreement with the University of Oviedo is a clear sign of the commitment that we want to offer to the students so that they can reach the best possible training and practical experience with the most leading technologies. In order to guarantee the success of future business generations and technologies, companies and universities must work together".
