The University, Sogepsa and the Hábitat Colombia Foundation promote sustainable urban and territorial development

The agreement signed by the three institutions will lead to new research projects, organization of courses and the establishement of Postgraduate programs
The University of Oviedo, the Hábitat Colombia Foundation and Sogepsa signed today an agreement to promote Postgraduate formation, scientific research and cooperation related to sustainable urban and territorial development. The objective of the agreement is focused on studying, developing, forming and working on concrete and complex cases and problems that affect the urban environment.
Present in the act were the Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor Santamaría; the representative in Spain of the Hábitat Colombia Foundation, Agustín Hernández Aja, Director of the Department of Urbanistics and the Territorial Direction of the Higher School of Engineering of the Polytechnical University of Madrid, and the councilor of Public Works, Belén Fernández González.
Also present were the Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Postgraduate Studies, Covadonga Betegón Biempica; professor of Public Law and promoter of the agreement María del Rosario Alonso Ibáñez, and the Managing Director of Sogepsa, José María Quirós Zarauza.
The Hábitat Colombia Foundation is an entity that develops educational, communicative and participative strategies aimed at promoting a new concept of quality of life in cities, based on the participation of the governments, the private sector and social organizations. Sogepsa, in turn, is a mixed business that lends its services as a consultancy agency in terms of urbanism and territorial planning, and which manages land, having being responsible for some of the most important and complex urbanistic projects in recent Asturian history.
Through the agreement, the signing entities commit themselves to promoting projects to study and research, organize joint projects, formative activities of research and courses, and Postgraduate programs, while the University of Oviedo will provide counceling and technical assistance on topics proposed by Sogepsa and the Hábitat Colombia Foundation. The workshops and activities will be focused on Latin America and the signing entities aim at establishing both good policies from different cities and countries where success has been found as generating new knowledge that may be used in other countries.
