The University of Oviedo reopens the América Residence Hall after finishing its rehabilitation

The building offers 72 new places for accommodation for university students, although they have already been taken for the next academic year
The University of Oviedo reopens this academic year the América Residence Hall after having completed the works of total rehabilitation of the building. The residence offers a total of 72 places for accommodation that have already been taken for the next academic year, with more applications left waiting in the queue. Of the 72 available places, 69 will be taken by students and 3 by teachers and university staff.
The Rector, Vicente Gotor, and the Councilor of Education, Culture and Sports, Ana González, alongside other authorities, visited this morning the premises of the residence hall, which will receive the first students this week.
The Council of Education, Culture and Sports of the Principality of Asturias and the University of Oviedo faced jointly the works of rehabilitation. The process has given the residence hall 72 individual rooms with their own bathroom, telephone and Wi-Fi connection.
The common areas include a library; study rooms; conference and IT halls; TV room with a DVD player, board games and video games; self-service restaurants and cafeteria; a garden areas, and its own parking lot. The rooms and premises of the residence hall are fully adapted for people with disabilities.
The works of rehabilitation have also included the opening of a center of transformation of electricity and improvements in the supply of gas. All the premises have been equipped with new furniture. The residence hall has cleaning and food services, and a complete plan of cultural activities, as well as academic and professional guidance.
The reopening of the América Residence Hall completes the offer of accommodation by the University of Oviedo, joining the San Gregorio Residence Hall and the University Residence Hall of Mieres. One of the strategic axes of the Campus of International Excellence has been focused on extending and improving the offer of accommodation of the academic institution.
