• The University of Oviedo offers 92 scholarships of the program Santander scholarships for internships

    Undergraduate and graduate students may formalize their applications until January, 31

    Students of the University of de Oviedo may apply this year to 92 scholarships of the program Becas Santander-CRUE-CEPYME, which offers professional internships in small and medium-sized enterprises of the region in 2013. This number duplicates the scholarships awarded last year, which was a great success.

    Vicente Gotor, Rector of the University of Oviedo, Severino García Vigón, president of the Asturias Federation of Employers (FADE), Alfredo Albaizar, director of Santander Universidades España, and Oscar Calleja, regional director of Santander Bank in Asturias, have presented the new program this morning.

    "This initiative helps us bring University closer to enterprises, which we think essential", highlighted Vicente Gotor, who encouraged students to apply for the scholarships. The president of the FADE, Severino García Vigón emphasized the great possibilities that a period of internships has for students. "If the employer eventually needs a similar profile, he will hire someone he already knows".

    From the Santander Bank, Óscar Calleja highlighted the effort "to promote the relationship between University and companies and also to encourage Universities to offer students theoretical-practical training."

    Undergraduate or Graduate Students

    Scholarships are promoted by Banco Santander, CRUE (Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities) and CEPYME (Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises). These scholarships offer internships in Asturian companies for a period of three months, to complete the students ‘training, expand their knowledge and facilitate employability.     This initiative is aimed at undergraduate or graduate students of Spanish universities or centers associated to them, or at students developing studies there due to mobility programs or agreements. Those interested must have completed 50% of the credits to earn the degree and they cannot have any contractual relationship with the University or Company in which the internships will take place. Each scholarship, with 600 euros a month, may be complemented with any other subsidy provided by the company on a voluntary basis.
