The Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness has granted €2,065,204 to 21 of the projects presented by researchers of the University of Oviedo for the State Program for the Promotion of Scientific and Technical Research of Excellence in its call of 2013. This amount covers 52.9% of the total of the funds requested by the research groups.

The 21 researches financed comprise all the fields of knowledge and involve areas as different as classical philosophy, IT, psychology or organic and inorganic chemistry.

The State Program for the Promotion of Scientific and Technical Research of Excellence is aimed at promoting the generation of scientific and technological knowledge, without a previously-defined thematic orientation, and including the generation of knowledge and the development of emergent technology. It seeks to contribute to the consolidation of research groups and support their own innovative and promising lines of research, developed by young researchers who join the RDI system.

The aforementioned national call has just been resolved and marks as the start date of the project January 1, 2014. The majority of the projects funded at the University of Oviedo will end in December 2016, though some will extend their duration to 2017.
