The Recto, Vicente Gotor; the president of the General Council of the Principality of Asturias, Pedro Sanjurjo; the Councilor for Education and Culture of the Town Council of Oviedo, Inmaculada González, and the President of the OVImun university association, Marco Fernández, inaugurated the meeting, chosing a security council; a human rights council; a social and economic council, the general assembly and a pressure committee, the organs in which the debates on international politics take place. The Rector encouraged the university students to work to make dialog prevail in the resolution of conflicts and to put in practice rethorics, tolerance and respect towards others. The meeting was opened by a conference by diplomat Manuel Alhama Orenes.
OVImun is a simulation of the functioning of the United Nations that takes place for the third time in Oviedo. Simulation models started in Harvard University more than 50 years ago and they aim at putting in practice knowledege on international politics, economy and law, apart from developing skills for negotiation, oratory and diplomacy. 90 delegates from diverse Spanish universities, such as Oviedo, Madrid, Granada, Santiago de Compostela, Barcelona, Valencia or the UNED, will participate in OVImun.
