The University of Oviedo has awarded some teachers and administration and services staff who retired this academic year with the silver and gold badges. The rector, Vicente Gotor, chaired this event which was a tribute to university career of the more than eighty members who worked at the academic institution.

This year, badges recognized posthumously the work and dedication of Juan Antonio Fernández-Tresguerres, professor of Prehistory and PhD in Archaeology as well as Carmen Arias Secades, member of the administration and services staff, who died during the current academic year. The rector stressed that their time at the University of Oviedo won't be forgotten, "since they have left their partners, colleagues and disciples here who will keep their memory alive".

Around 60 students and members of the Teaching Staff were given a gold badge because of their contribution for more than 35 years of university career, while the silver badge was given to 23 teachers and Administrative staff for more than 25 years of work. The rector appreciated their dedication to the University of Oviedo and he reminded them that University is primary a lifestyle, a way of seeing things and "the real university is the one who never retires", as "when you are a university person, you will be so for your whole life".
