The Historic Building's Auditorium held the diploma awarding to the 44 students from the University Program for Mature People (PUMUO) which have passed the third and fifth year. The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, presided over the graduation accompanied by the Regional Minister of Social Welfare and Housing of the Principality of Asturias, Esther Díaz, and the General Director of Caja Rural, Fernando Martínez Rodríguez, on behalf of the banking institution that collaborates with PUMUO's development.

The Rector, Vicente Gotor, congratulated the graduates for their diplomas "and for demonstrating that one is always young enough for learning and that the age is not an obstacle". Gotor showed his satisfaction for the working of the program and its results and put forward that the courses developed in Gijón will also be added to the ones being carried out in Oviedo and Avilés.

For his part, the Regional Minister of Social Welfare and Housing, Esther Díaz, showed his commitment to trying that the budget cuts do not compromise PUMUO's future in 2013 "because the positive aspects this program offers are without question much bigger than the expenses". In a similar line, Fernando Martínez reminded them that Caja Rural has always collaborated since its birth "to give back something from all they give us to Asturian people".

The students also gave a speech in an Auditorium full of friends and relatives and showed their gratitude to the people responsible for the chance PUMUO offers them as it is an initiative "that joins many people avoiding loneliness and sadness". Laudelino Villarmar was also grateful for the effort taken by the University "to help us decide what we want to be when we grow up", concluded ironically.
