    Professional Opportunities

    On completion of this Certificate Degree in Specialist's Degree in Emergency and Disaster Healthcare, the student will have acquired the necessary knowledge and developed the necessary practical skills for their professional career in the emergency services of hospitals, transportation of critically-injured patients and emergency services of basic medical assistance. Moreover, it will grant the doctors of basic medical assistance the knowledge needed to face the emergencies that may appear during their everyday job. The teaching planning will also serve to update the knowledge of the doctors who work at emergency services.


    The course lasts 950 hours distributed into two terms and consists 38 ECTS credits.

    • MODULE I: Medicalsurgical emergencies. This theoretical module focuses on healthcare aspects of the most important medical and surgical pathologies that hospital emergency departments have to deal with.
    • MODULE II: Theory of emergency and disaster healthcare and research methodology. This is a 30-hour module dealing with aspects relating to response faced with emergency and disaster, as well as with basic aspects relating to research methodology.
    • MODULE III: Theoretical and practical seminars on emergency healthcare. This module consists of 8 seminars of 120 hours. Seminars will be taught throughout the study year.

      • Triage systems in emergency
      • Specific techniques in emergency healthcare
      • Advanced life support to multiple trauma patients
      • Pediatric and neonatal basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation
      • Advanced life support to pediatric trauma patients
      • Assistance to car accident victims and indicents of multiple victims
    • MODULE IV: Internships. This module consits of 280 hours of practicals to be carried out at the San Agustín Hospital, the Central Teaching Hospital of Asturias and the Coordination Unit of Emergency Healthcare of the Sespa (Health service of Asturias). The intersnips will be adapted to the professional profile of the students.
