The contest of Minerals, Gems and Fossils of the Mining School has organized a gold panning competition

From the 4th to the 6th of March, there will also be tours for students as well as exhibitions in Oviedo.The Mining School of the University of Oviedo is getting ready for an intense weekend because of the XXII Contest of Minerals, Gems and Fossils which will include exhibitions, guided tour and even a gold panning competition.
The core of the contest will be the collection that different exhibitors will show: samples of minerals from the most diverse areas of the world. The lovers of collecting will be able to acquire some of these precious pieces. This is the main activity that will last for the three days of the contest, from 10 to 14h and from 17 to 21h.
At the same time an always through a previous request, school tours will be able to attend the exhibition as well as some of the laboratories related to those areas in which scientists work with natural resources. There will also be an exposition about scale models of some of the facilities for the generation of renewal energy. Furthermore, some guided tours to the European Centre of Gemmology and Jewellery, where the gemmologists and the jewels designers study, can be done.
On the 5th of March, there will be an introductory workshop about gold panning, opened to everybody, which will be very useful for the competition that will be held the following day. On Sunday morning, the phases of classification will take place, from 11 to 14 h. That afternoon, the final phases will be held from 17 to 19h.
