The Asturian Centre in Mexico brings young Asturian descendants closer to the University of Oviedo
July 19, 2012
The visit is part of the cultural and educational program "Así es Asturias"
A total of 28 Mexican secondary students, descendants of emigrants from the Principality of Asturias, visited the Historic Building of the University of Oviedo within the framework of the program "Así es Asturias", by which the Asturian Centre in Mexico provides young Mexicans with the opportunity, since 1997, of knowing the most important institutions in the region.
The students, accompanied by the President of the Culture Commission in the Asturian Centre, Aurelio González, and two monitors, were received by Leticia Santos Vijande, Director of the Internationalization Office of the University of Oviedo, who showed them the educational project of the Asturian institution.
The objective of this visit is that the students know the cultural and real region, far away from the barely traditional views, which currently has a European renown of Excellence. Apart from the University, the group has also visited the Asturian Parliament, some museums like the Archaeological and the Fine Arts ones and the Ethnographic of Grandas de Salime, among others, as well as different municipal councils in the region.
It is precisely in the Asturian Centre of Mexico that we can currently visit an exhibition with photographs and documents of the University of Oviedo.
